Both schools hosted Reality U in February. This was an opportunity for 8th graders to experience real life! They were given a salary/job based on their interests and GPA. They were then able to move around the stations to pay rent, transportation, food, childcare, insurance, etc... The goal was to have money left at the end of the simulation for savings/investment. Overall the kids love participating in this experience! Their eyes are opened to how expensive things are and much they appreciate their parents!!  If you have never experienced Reality U, please join us next year! It is an amazing day for students, staff and volunteers!

Amy Champlin
Andover Middle School principal, and along with Leslieanne Craft (ACMS principal), recipient of a grant for Reality U.

Having six welding tables with tools in class has been a game-changer for my students. This setup allowed each of them to have hands-on experience without waiting for their turn, making learning more efficient and engaging. With their own space to work, students can practice their welding techniques more frequently, enhancing their skills at a faster rate. Plus, the immediate access to tools meant less downtime and more time perfecting their craft. This not only boosted their confidence but also prepared them better for real-world welding tasks, making the learning experience both productive and enjoyable.

Cole Hurley, high school welding teacher and recipient of a 2023 grant that provided his classroom with six welding tables, including tools and accessories.
