The number of students impacted by the grant will be 150 this school year, as both 4th and 5th grades at CES will have the opportunity to be in a samba band during music specials as well as performances inside and outside school.

Description

The requested funds will go towards the purchase of Latin Percussion (LP) instruments to create an authentic elementary samba band that will perform for the school, families, and community of Andover. Students in the samba band will demonstrate imagination, creativity, and innovation by composing new rhythmic patterns for the instruments to play based on the nature and venue of public performances. Rhythmic composition uses higher-order thinking skills as well as allows for higher student engagement.
